Wood Sculptures by Gary D. Harrington
Mr. Harrington has had a long love affair with woodworking. His grandfather had been a ship builder and as a young child Gary was influenced by with this media as an art form. During his high school years Mr. Harrington was mentored by his wood shop teacher and track couch John Crothers. Mr. Crothers not only influence Gary in all aspects of woodworking but also so lead him to two State Championships and a state record in the two mile run. In his two tours of duty in the Vietnam War he honed his woodworking skills turning old pallets and scrape wood in everything from bunkers to chairs and tables.
After the war he opened Bondi Junction ware he refinished and rebuild antique and recycled furniture.
This became HARRINGTON BICENTENNIAL FURNITURE in1976. Where he used recycled wood to make furniture and objects of art. In the 1980 Mr. Harrington moved to Gulfport Mississippi ware he now has his studio. Here he produces framed painting and his wood sculpture. The Sculptures are constructed by laminating up to two hundred peaces of wood to form a light weight semi functional Art Form.
Confederate Soldier
This wood constructed, sculpture measures 35 ¼ tall the base is 11” X 12”. It represents a Soldier of the 3ed Mississippi Light Infantry. Constructed in 1997 by Gary D. Harrington at his studio in Gulfport Mississippi. It has been used as a prop for meeting of the UDC Beauvoir Chapter and for Civil War related projects.
